The Last Post marked the completion of the duty officer's rounds, in which they would check sentry posts and send off-duty soldiers to retire for the night. It is now sounded at military funerals and commemorative services, including services held on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.

The tune, familiar to Australians who have heard it throughout their lives, is simple yet poignant.

The coin design depicts a bugler sounding the Last Post in front of a war memorial. Parts of the musical score are shown in a radiating pattern in the top half of the design, their arrangement reminiscent of the sun setting over the horizon.

The 2026 $2 The Last Post ‘C’ Mintmark Coloured Uncirculated Coin is available in Australia from Direct Coins - leading authorised distributor for the Royal Australian Mint since 2012.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0810/7527/4047/files/2026-2-the-last-post-c-mintmark-coloured-uncirculated-coin-7757786.jpg?v=1792656672
