About This Coin
The Royal Australian Mint is proud to support the Australian Winter Paralympic Team as they head to the 2026 Milano Cortina Games to take on the world. This 2026 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Coin embodies the determination, courage and the true spirit of the Paralympic movement.
Australia first competed at the Winter Paralympic Games in 1980 in Geilo, Norway, with two athletes. It wasn’t until 1992 in Albertville, France, that Australia won its first medal — a bronze by Michael Milton in alpine skiing. Milton went on to become a Paralympic legend, winning six gold, three silver and two bronze medals across four Games, and setting the foundation for Australia’s success on snow.
Australia’s Winter Paralympic athletes consistently punch above their weight, overcoming challenges to shine on the world stage. Their legacy is one of courage, excellence and national pride — making Australia a respected and inspiring presence in Paralympic winter sport.
