This striking new coloured proof coin from the Royal Australian Mint commemorates the Last Post – a military bugle call which traditionally signalled the end of the day’s activities, and which has become a profound element of military funerals and commemorative services.

At the close of each day, a poignant Last Post Ceremony is held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Visitors to the Memorial lay wreaths at the Pool of Reflection; the story of one of the service personnel listed on the Roll of Honour is told; and the Last Post is sounded. The Last Post can also be heard at Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies across the country, its solemn notes setting the tone for remembrance and reflection.

The coin design depicts a bugler sounding the Last Post in front of a war memorial. The colours of nightfall are recalled by the dusky orange and deep purple hues of the printed circle in the centre of the coin.
