About This Coin
On 14 February 1966, Australia made history by transitioning from pounds, shillings and pence to a bold new decimal system, one of the most ambitious economic transformations in the nation's history. To ease the shift, the government launched a landmark public education campaign featuring "Dollar Bill", a beloved cartoon character whose catchy jingle, Decimal Currency – The Easy Way!, guided Australians through the change via television, posters and pamphlets.
The road to decimalisation was years in the making. A dedicated Decimal Currency Board oversaw the process, and a nationwide naming competition ultimately crowned the "dollar" as Australia's currency. When Decimal Day arrived, meticulous preparation ensured a transition far smoother than sceptics had anticipated.
Now, six decades on, the 2026 Six-Coin Uncirculated Year Set commemorates this defining milestone. Presented in a striking teal and gold collectors' folder bearing the "60 Years of Decimal Currency" emblem, the set includes all six circulating coins; 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2, all in pristine uncirculated condition, struck by the Royal Australian Mint.
