The Maiden by Gustav Klimt reveals a different side of the artist beyond the golden surface of The Kiss. Painted in 1913, it belongs to Klimt’s late period, where saturated colour, spirals, and floral ornament replace gold as the language of desire and transformation.

At the centre, a sleeping maiden is surrounded by six interwoven female figures, forming an allegory of womanhood, youth, beauty, and ephemerality. The composition moves in a circular rhythm: bodies and textiles merge until figure and pattern become almost inseparable. Preserved today in the National Gallery Prague, the painting stands as a vivid late-Klimt vision of the stages of a woman’s life.
