A goat stands sure-footed on an open mountain plain, a distant peak behind it. This is the reverse of the Australian Lunar Series III 2027 Year of the Goat 0.5g Gold Coin in Card, the latest release in The Perth Mint’s Lunar Series III.

The Goat holds eighth place in the Chinese zodiac. In the legend of the emperor’s great race, the goat, monkey and rooster crossed a wide, rushing river together, and the goat’s calm determination carried it to the far bank first.

Those born in a Year of the Goat, also known as the Year of the Sheep, are said to be gentle and creative, with a quiet resilience. Goat years include 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991 and 1979.

The design also carries the Chinese character for ‘Goat’, the inscription ‘GOAT 2027’, the coin’s weight and purity, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Struck in pure gold and weighing 0.5g, the coin is sealed in an acrylic capsule and presented in a wallet-sized card. It is an accessible way to own a Perth Mint gold coin, and a small gold coin well suited as a Chinese New Year gift or a keepsake for a child born in 2027.
