About This Coin
Its wings are too small for flight, but the emu hardly needs them: long, powerful legs let the six-foot bird sprint at nearly 50km per hour. Endemic to Australia, it is the nation's largest living bird and the world's second largest, found across coastal regions, deserts, plains, forests and mountains. Its primitive, hair-like feathers help it cope with the extreme temperature swings of the Australian outback.
On this 1oz silver coloured coin, the reverse shows an adult emu running across the outback beneath a cloudy sky of blue and violet hues, with a shed and windmill among low grasses and rocky terrain. The design carries the inscription 'AUSTRALIAN EMU', the coin's weight, purity, 2026 year-date and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark.
The Australian Emu 2026 1oz Silver Coloured Coin is available in Australia from Direct Coins. Leading authorised distributor for The Perth Mint since 2012.
