About This Coin
At the centre of this Great Southern Land coin is a piece of chrysoprase cut in the shape of Australia. The stone takes its green from nickel, and it is mined in Queensland and Western Australia, which is why it is sometimes called Australian jade. An Australian stone, set into an Australian coin, highlighting Australia.
Around it runs a ring of rainforest. Clockwise from top right: a flying fox, a possum, a tree snake, a kingfisher, a crocodile, a butterfly, a tree frog, a cassowary, an orb-weaving spider, and further birds among them. Native flora fills the background, along with The Perth Mint's P mintmark and the coin's weight, purity and 2026 year-date.
The rainforests the design draws on run down the northern and eastern coasts, tropical through to cool-temperate, and hold thousands of plant species alongside the animals shown here.
The Great Southern Land - 2026 1oz Gold Proof Chrysoprase Coin is available in Australia from Direct Coins. Leading authorised distributor for The Perth Mint since 2012.
