About This Coin
A dingo stands in full colour on the Mammals of Australia 2027 $1 Dingo 1oz Silver Proof Coin, its design drawn from an illustration in Volume 3 of John Gould’s The Mammals of Australia. It is the second release in the Mammals of Australia Silver Series, following the Red Kangaroo.
John Gould is best known for The Birds of Australia, which earned him the title Father of Australian Ornithology. After arriving in Australia in 1838, he turned his attention to the country’s extraordinary mammals as well. The result, The Mammals of Australia, was published in 13 parts across three volumes between 1845 and 1863. Its 182 illustrations remain a landmark record of Australian mammals.
The coin brings that 19th century artwork onto a 38.60mm silver flan, struck to proof quality from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver. A ‘JG’ privymark honours Gould himself. For collectors of Australian animal coins, natural history or Gould’s work, it pairs naturally with the Red Kangaroo to build the series.
Available from Direct Coins. Trusted by collectors since 2012.
